| SOMALI TPS EXTENDED TO MARCH 17, 2011: The United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) has announced that Temporary Protected Status for Somalis has been extended from September 17, 2009 to March 17, 2011. Only Somalis who entered the U.S. on or before September 4, 2001 are eligible for TPS. Those Somalis who have already been granted TPS must apply to re-register between July 27, 2009 and September 24, 2009. Anticipating delays in processing the renewal applications,USCIS has stated that currently valid Employment Authorization documents which have an expiration date of September 17, 2009 will be automatically extended for 180 days to March 17, 2010.
Somali nationals who entered the U.S. on or before September 4, 2001, but did not previously register for TPS may be eligible for initial registration if they satisfy the legal requirements. For more information contact call the USCIS National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-
